Winter People
Winter, 2005-2006

Winter People is a series of street placed woodcuts based on and inspired by the the cold midwestern weather and the way we change ourselves to cope. I am somewhat fascinated by hats, scarves and big heavy coats and the way they hide, cover and protect. This series in part explores this idea and the aesthetics of urban winter. The material used to create these is found, so in many ways when I place these I am just returning them to their original home. The idea is to keep doing them as long as the weather is cold and I keep finding the stuff needed to make them. Image gallery coming soon.

Rag Can
March, 2005

I recently tackled a major problem in my indoor workspace. I turned a few old t shirts into multi purpose studio rags. The kind suitable for both wiping your hands as well as sopping up the occasional (very occasional) paint spill. The only problem was these so called "Rags" would always end up laying around on my floor and made me appear to be a perfect slob to the throngs of people who trample through my studio everyday. You can see my dilemma. However I have come up with a novel solution that my be useful to other artists. I have developed a special can that serves in the function of a container for my rags! It was painfully simple to devise. I just used an old coffee can but to avoid any confusion as to the true purpose of this Rag Can I spent several days developing a auspicious label that would once and for all define the mission of this can. There are few things as sweet as a project completed with such success and I suggest if you find your self in similar scenario to make such a Rag Can for yourself.

The Garage
August 1, 2004

Like most of us I have found that I need more space, specifically studio space. And by studio space I mean space where I need not be troubled by thoughts of ruining this or that, space where I can make a mess, as I am so prone to do, with impunity. As it happens I am blessed (or cursed) with a garage and I have taken it upon myself to convert this space into a studio. I know that sorting through filthy boxes, choking down clouds of seven year old dust, and keeping an eye out for angry spiders sounds like fun but it's not. Having said all that, I am really excited about having the elbow room to create bigger and better things, and it seems my uncanny knack for finding things other people have thrown away is in full swing, so space for recent acquisitions is much needed. Another plus is I will be able to fire up my four color screen printing press again. This will allow me to print whatever I can fit under a screen, so expect a "Prints" section added to the site in the next, um let's say, five years. Pictures soon
